Customers, who are currently on
our trial with the Samsung Z105
handset, are
amongst the first to experience
Vodafone's video calling service, which
brings
a more personal and fun way to chat to
your friends and family from your mobile
phone.
These specially selected customers
have also been able to view video clips
from some top brands across news,
weather, film and music by streaming
the content
direct to their handset. Furthermore,
they have experienced faster access to
Vodafone live! content, made possible
due to the 3G network. Sending and
receiving
video messages, the next generation
on from picture messages, further
enhances
the suite of video services available to
our customers.
Third-generation mobile
phone services, which are
usually
abbreviated to '3G', are best thought of
as an enhancement to Vodafone's
existing
mobile phone network.
Information that is sent across any
telephone network can only travel as fast
as the network will let it. Until the
launch of 3G, the maximum data speed
for
mobile phones was relatively slow. This
meant that you could send and receive
simple email messages and photos,
but that downloading large email
attachments
could take quite a while.
Vodafone's 3G network operates at
speeds of up to 384Kbps, which is half
as
fast as an ADSL broadband fixed
connection. It means that we can make
our mobile
email and internet services much
faster - and we can introduce new
services,
such as video messaging and video
calling.
When you choose a 3G datacard or
a mobile phone, you don't need to worry
about
the technology. If you find yourself in
an area that's not yet covered by 3G,
you'll automatically switch to our
existing network.
There aren't any unexpected 3G
charges - you simply pay for the
services you
use, just like any other mobile phone or
datacard.
If you'd like to learn more, take a
look at any of our services that use 3G
technology. To order a 3G datacard or
mobile phone, please contact your
Vodafone
representative or speak to your service
provider by calling the telephone number
on your bill. If you're not yet a Vodafone
customer, simply visit your local
Vodafone retailer.
